Aside from the chicken, if there’s one thing people really love to order at KFC, it’s the gravy.
We reckon some fast food fans might even love the stuff so much that they’d be willing to bathe in it.
But others have been put off recently after a TikTok user, who claims to work for the fast food giant, revealed how they make it.
In a video shared last week, a UK-based user named @cheddar4.7 showed step-by-step how it’s done.
They began with a large pot filled with a brown substance known as ‘crackling’. They explained this is the “chicken bits that come off while in the fryer” and it’s stored in the fridge.
Water is added to the crackling, followed by a sachet of gravy spices.
This gets whisked together and is placed in the oven for nine minutes. When the time is up, it’s taken out and mixed, before returning to the oven for a further nine minutes.
When it comes out again, it has thickened up and is poured through a sieve to remove any bits.
The employee then decants what’s left into the fast food chain’s signature red-topped pots, labels them and places them in the hot cabinet where they can be stored for up to six hours.
The video went viral, being watched over 580,000 times.
More than 2,000 people commented on the post, with many divided over it.
Some were horrified and vowed never to eat the gravy again after watching the process.
“Never having gravy from KFC again,” said one person.
Another wrote: “That is grim.”
“I wish I never saw this,” admitted a third.
Someone else added: “Thank god I’m vegetarian.”
Cheddar4.7 defended the gravy, replying to one of the above saying: “It’s actually made in a clean way, I still have it so why shouldn’t you?”
Others found the negative comments funny and asked how people thought gravy was made.
“People in the comments obviously don’t understand what gravy is,” posted a different user.
A second proclaimed: “This is so much better than I thought it was made. Can’t imagine what some people in the comments would think if they saw how normal gravy was made.”
Other popular videos on the TikTok account show the worker explaining how Krushems and KFC mini fillets/strips are made.
